Tchoup privacy
Tchoup is a live street-flooding map for New Orleans, on the web at
tchoup.app and as an iOS app. This page describes both.
What we collect
- Email address — used to sign you in (passwordless) and, if you opt
in, to send flood alerts near your saved home. Signing in does not add
you to any mailing list.
- "Tell me when this city is live" (optional) — if you ask us to let
you know when your city goes live, we keep your address for that and
nothing else.
- Flood reports you post — location, water depth, and an optional
short note, shown publicly on the map without your name or email.
- Saved home location (optional) — stored privately to power your
proximity alerts; never shown to anyone.
- A device identifier — an anonymous random ID that limits abuse
(rate limits, one vote per device). Not tied to your name.
- Push token (iOS, optional) — if you enable notifications.
What we don't do
- No ads, no data sales, no tracking across other apps or sites.
- IP addresses are stored only as salted hashes for abuse control.
- Your email is never shown publicly and never attached to a report.
Sign in with Apple
On iOS you can sign in with Apple. We store the email Apple shares (you may
use Apple's private relay) and your Apple account's stable identifier. Nothing
else from your Apple account is accessed.
Deleting your account
In the iOS app: Settings → Delete account. This removes your email, sign-in
identity, saved home, and push tokens immediately; reports you posted stay on
the map anonymized. On the web, email us and we'll do the same within 24 hours.
